In collaboration with Democracy NC, the Asheville-Buncombe Branch of the NAACP has held leadership training, poll monitoring training, and best practices training for our volunteers on how to register voters, as well as Senior Suffrage registrations and more.
Because close to a million African Americans, Latinos and whites are unregistered in the state, the branch has worked hard to get people registered in time for the March 15th Primary Election.
The next stage of the GOTV drive is phone-banking to remind people to get out to vote. Those interested in volunteering with that effort should contact [email protected] or [email protected].
The local branch is also encouraging people to vote early for the Primary Election; early voting sites are open until 1 p.m. March 12. Early Voting is the best way to address any issues you may have—not to mention avoiding the risk of bad weather, long lines, or other problems on Primary Day, March 15, 2016.
One requirement of the state’s Voter ID law has been changed for this election: those who do not have an ID may still vote under certain allowed exceptions. So go out and vote; nothing is more important to our democracy.
The Asheville-Buncombe Branch NAACP meets the second Tuesday of each month at Hill Street Baptist Church, 135 Hill Street at 6:30 p.m. Registering voters will resume after the primary election, and volunteers are encouraged to help!
