Moral Monday Movement Coming Up in Winston Salem
The Forward Together and Moral Monday Movement is sponsoring a mass voting rights march in Winston-Salem on Monday, July 13. The march is timed to coincide with the first day of federal trial in the voting rights case filed by the NC-NAACP, the NC League of Women Voters, the American Civil Liberties Union and several other social justice organizations.
The groups, supported by the US Justice Department, are challenging state legislation that, they claim, curtails voting rights and opportunities in the state and discriminates, in particular, against black voters.
The NC-NAACP is planning an ecumenical service on Sunday, July 12, at Union Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, followed by a day of teach-ins from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Goler Memorial A.M.E. Church on Monday, the 13th. At 5 p.m. there will be a march and rally at Corpening Plaza, 231 W. 1st Street.
