Terry Van Duyn Nominated for State Senate Seat
District-1 Courtroom was packed as Delegates of the Buncombe County Democratic Party came to cast their ballot for the nominee to replace the late N. C. Senator Martin Nesbitt.
After two rounds of balloting, Terry Van Duyn was selected to fill the unexpired term of District-49 seat of Senator Martin Nesbitt.
Van Duyn is an active fundraiser and volunteer for the Buncombe County Democratic Party, who has also served on many non-profits that support education, social justice, and health parity. Van Duyn was also a featured speaker at Mountain Moral Monday, and was among those arrested at a Moral Monday protest in Raleigh.
Other candidates were Michelle Pace Woods, Charlie Mills, Axia Wilson, and Keith Young.
The final tally of votes were: 93 votes for Van Duyn, and 53 votes for Veronika Gunter.
The party voted to put Terry Van Duyn on the ballot for the General Election in November 2014.
