The 2014 Advocacy Day at the NC Capitol will he held May 21, 2014, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The legislative building is located at 16 West Jones St. in Raleigh, NC. Advocacy Day is held each year on behalf of various organizations focused on the human needs of NC citizens.

This year a highlight of Advocacy Day will be to bring the attention of the legislature to the number of state residents impacted by Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

This event will bring Alzheimer’s Advocates together to draw attention to the need for an Alzheimer’s-specific NC state disease plan and increased dementia care training for professionals, and offer solutions to policy makers.

Advocates will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn about the legislative process
  • Learn to make a “pitch” to legislators
  • Meet face-to-face with elected officials
  • Tell personal stories to key decision-makers affecting policy for individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and their families
  • Bring awareness to the importance of the Alzheimer’s Association’s public policy priorities

The schedule for the Advocacy Day events is as follows:

  • 9-10 a.m. – Advocacy Training
  • 10 a.m.-Noon – Meeting with Representatives
  • Noon-1 p.m. – Lunch on the lawn with special guest speaker
  • 1-2:30 p.m. – Continued meetings with Senators and Representatives
