Health & Human Services Improvements

Buncombe County has improved access to Health & Human Services by conveniently locating many services in one place, at 40 Coxe Avenue.

Trained greeters in our lobby can assess an individual’s needs and connect them on-site to health and economic services. Easy-to-use kiosks are also available so anyone needing assistance can sign in for an appointment, ask for same day service, or access information.

In the past, accessing these services meant explaining the need
multiple times to several people in different locations. With the
completion of this renovation and reorganization, access is a one-stop
experience.

Besides the one-stop office at 40 Coxe Avenue,
residents can also apply for many assistance programs over the phone at
(828) 250-5000 or (828) 250-5500, or online at buncombecounty.org/dss.

This
renovation and reorganization is part of the County’s ongoing efforts
to maximize resources and provide services that ensure residents’ safety
and well-being, foster better health, and support their
self-sufficiency.

Services located at 40 Coxe include
immunizations (children, adults, foreign travel); family planning (birth
control methods, Pap tests, pregnancy tests, emergency contraception);
STD testing, breast and cervical cancer control program; and Wise Woman,
WIC, food assistance, adult Medicaid, and Workfirst.
