Teachers Union to Hold Rally on State Budget

The Western North Carolina Teachers Association will sponsor a Solidarity Rally from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 15 to inform the public about the proposed NC budget cuts of 2011. The rally, cosponsored by the WNC Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO, will be held at Riverfront Park in downtown Bryson City on Mitchell Street across from the Post Office.

The rally is designed to show support of public employees, especially the teachers who are responsible for shaping our next generation. According to organizers, the rally is being held on a Sunday afternoon so that everyone can attend.

Speakers include Jennifer Wood of the NC Association of Educators; Tony Davis of SEANC, Brian Ball of the Teamsters Union; and Mike Morris of the American Postal Workers Union. The MC will be former NC Representative John Snow.
