Black Panther “Okoye” Interview – Danai Gurira
The highly anticipated Black Panther spinoff starring Danai Gurira is no longer moving forward, according to Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios head of streaming, television, and animation.
Behind-the-scenes interview with Danai Gurira
Talk of the Okoye series began four years ago, but nothing else has been shared until recently.
“I think fans of Okoye are going to be excited to see her come back, but I don’t think it’s going to be in a television show,” Winderbaum said to Pay or Wait. “I can’t say where and when, but I think there’s a lot to look forward to.”
According to Winderbaum, Eyes of Wakanda is more of the focus since it ties in directly to the Marvel Comic Universe.
No Address (Trailer)
Singer Ashanti returns to the big screen in a film that confronts the growing homelessness crisis in the country in her new film No Address.
Starring Beverly D’Angelo, William Baldwin, Ashanti, Xander Berkeley
In the film, Ashanti plays Violet, a veteran battling with addiction, homelessness, and a society in general that doesn’t see her humanity.
“I read the script and I was like, ‘Wow, this is so authentic and so touching, and completely different that anything I’ve ever done.’ And I just felt like it was super necessary in the message and to create the awareness,” the singer, who is also an executive producer for the film, said recently.
Catch No Address in theaters now.
Becoming A Pixar Director
Ethiopian-American filmmaker Searit Huluf is blazing a new trail in animation as the first Black woman to direct a stop-motion short film for Pixar, with her project, Self.
Searit Huluf’s Journey
An avid animation enthusiast, Huluf’s groundbreaking work has already netted her a spot on Variety’s 2024 Top 10 Animators to Watch list. That achievement also highlights the increasing impact of Black women in animation, a field where there’s been a lack of representation.
Huluf’s film is also a catalyst in bringing the stop-motion style to Pixar studios. Stop-motion, a meticulous and intricate style, requires animators to move objects frame by frame to create seamless motion.
Self is streaming now on Disney+.
