Asheville Program Empowers Middle School Girls

Free, Back-to-School Shopping and Arts Experience.

A fun, timed shopping experience for middle-school girls.

As the school year approaches, the newly launched nonprofit Whirled Rhythm Nations United (WRNU) has scheduled several autumn events designed to boost confidence and creativity among Asheville’s middle school girls.

Tickets for the fundraising programs will be available at locations around Asheville throughout August; area organizations are encouraged to purchase a block of tickets to distribute to members of their communities.

The first event, held on Saturday, September 13, 2025 from 1 to 4 p.m., and Sunday, September 14, 2025 from 3 to 5 p.m., will be a “30-Minute Shop-a-Thon” at the YMI Center, 39 S. Market Street on The Block.

At this fun, timed shopping experience, middle-school girls (and their parents or caregivers) will be able to refresh their wardrobes just in time for school—at no cost to themselves! Tickets are required to attend, but the clothing the girls choose will be theirs, free of charge. Raffle prizes will also be given out, with tickets available at check-in.

Then, on Saturday, October 4, WRNU will launch *Uniquely You by Design,* a twelve-week, arts-based experience that will guide girls on a journey of self-discovery by helping them embrace the power and gift of self.

Students will explore their identity and gain a deeper understanding of their purpose and responsibilities. They will also nurture their natural creative talents through hands-on projects and mentorship. The program, also held at the YMI, creates a safe and inspiring space where participants can celebrate their unique voices and build confidence—an extremely important aspect of young ladies’ development as they go through middle school.

*Uniquely You by Design* is a special space where girls can grow, reflect, and be truly celebrated for who they are,” said Fatimah’ Shabazz, founder of Whirled Rhythm Nations United LLC. “This program is about planting seeds of confidence and hope so that each young woman can believe deeply in herself and the bright future that lies ahead.”

Space is limited for both events. Reserve today by emailing [email protected] or calling (828) 254-6158, or on Facebook contact Fatimah Shabazz. Registration deadline is August 30, 2025.
