If you’re a photographer, or just someone who just likes to snap photos with a little digital camera, the Day in the Life of Asheville project wants you!

This year, photographers will hit the streets beginning at noon on April 18 and shoot until midnight April 19 for the spring 2008 edition of a Day in the Life of Asheville.

The project is a community art and documentary effort, and it’s open to anyone. Last year’s project saw 25 local photographers shoot literally thousands of photographs in Asheville. The photos were displayed at Pack Memorial Library and donated to the library’s North Carolina collection of photographs.

The event is aimed at
getting the community involved in artful photography, but you don’t
need to be a professional shutterbug with an expensive camera to
participate. We want anyone to get involved.

Here’s how it works:

You can shoot photos any time beginning at noon April 18 and ending at
midnight April 19. The general boundaries are: inside Asheville’s city
limits.

You upload 16 photos to the Day in the Life of Asheville group on the
photo-sharing Web site flickr.com. It’s free and easy to join. Here’s
the link: www.flickr.com/groups/diloashvegas.

A group of local photographers serving as judges will pick the photos
that will comprise the final project. Those photos will be printed and
displayed in a local gallery space.

There are a couple of deadlines that photographers need to hit after
April 19 to be included in the show. Anyone interested in participating
should go to www.ditlo.org for all the details.

We hope the community joins us in this great art and documentary project.
