The 34th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Prayer Breakfast will be held at 8:30 a.m. January 17, 2015, at the Crowne Plaza resort in Asheville.

The Prayer Breakfast is the largest, most diverse event of its kind in Asheville and one of the largest in the southeast. Only Atlanta’s annual black-tie dinner attracts more people to the King Center. Each year the Asheville event brings more than a thousand people of all races, faiths, and backgrounds together to recommit to Dr. King’s Dream and ensure that the community continues taking steps to bring it to realization.

The keynote speaker is a renowned professor at Duke University: Dr. Thavolia Glymph teaches 19th-century southern history and is a widely respected expert on the history of slavery and emancipation, with special attention to African American women during and after the Civil War. She is the author of the award-winning book Out of the House of Bondage: The Transformation of the Plantation Household.
