A course in Emergency Medical Science includes training in rescue skills, knowledge of fire scene operations, hazardous materials response, vehicle extrication, and self-defense.

Two years ago, A-B Tech started the Public Safety Administration degree to complement the programs in Emergency Services.

The program provides leadership training for experienced public safety professionals interested in promotion to management-level positions.

Course pathways are in place for personnel already working in Law Enforcement, EMS, Fire Service, Corrections and Emergency Management, and general public administration interest.

Amanda Cutshaw of Madison County government will be first graduate of the program. When she started her degree, she was working in the Madison County Sheriff’s Department. She started her career working part-time and worked her way up. Getting the degree has taken her into finance where she makes a difference. “The best part of my job is when we work with the other departments to get grants and funding to help the community,” Cutshaw said.

The PSA classes run for eight weeks, with three opening on Oct. 19, 2022. The classes are not structured in a rigorous order, so working adults can take what classes when they need them. “Most of the students we have are already working in the field and taking classes for a promotion,” said Anthony Green, Chair of Emergency Medical Science and Public Safety Administration at A-B Tech.
