
Barfuo is currently a senior at Asheville High School of Inquiry and Life Sciences (SILSA) where he maintains a 4.23 GPA, placing him in the top 20% of his senior class. He is simultaneously enrolled at A-B Tech Community College.
He is a member of the National Honor Society, a three-year member and senior leader in the joint Asheville City Schools/ACS Foundation’s Racial Equity Ambassador Program (REAP), and a member of the prestigious City of Asheville Youth Leadership Academy (CAYLA). In addition to his wide-ranging academic and community accomplishments, he has played soccer for four years and is an indoor and outdoor track runner for the Asheville Cougars.
The National Society of High School Scholars recognizes students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, scholarship, and community commitment.
NSHSS co-founder and President James W. Lewis said, “‘On behalf of NSHSS and our cofounder Claes Nobel, I’m honored to recognize the hard work, passion, and commitment that Bafuo Abayie Boaten has demonstrated to achieve this exceptional level of academic excellence.”
He added that a goal of the NSHSS is to “help students like Barfuo build on their academic success by connecting them with learning experiences and resources to help prepare them for college, develop their strengths, and pursue their passions.”
