Career-Building Continuing Education Classes Starting at A-B Tech

A-B Tech Community College has multiple continuing education classes that can be taken to help your career, start a new career, or just for pleasure.

Many of the courses have financial aid available.

Ophthalmic Assisting

Ophthalmic medical personnel are part of a professional team of eye care providers, supplying vital information to the physician in treating patients with eye disease, vision problems and surgery. A new cohort for ophthalmic assistant starts September 6. For more information, call the Health Occupations Office at (828) 398-7878 or visit abtech.edu/ophthalmic.

Community Health Worker

A Community Health Worker (CHW) is a frontline public health worker who is a trusted member of or has an unusually close understanding of the community served. This trusting relationship enables the worker to serve as a link between health/social services and the community they serve. A CHW builds individual and community capacity by increasing health knowledge and self-sufficiency through a range of activities such as outreach, community education, informal counseling, social support and advocacy. A-B Tech is proud to partner with the Office of Rural Health through DHHS and the NC CHW Association to bring this certification program to our region. Classes start September 1 and meet one day a week at the Goodwill Career Center. For more information, email [email protected].

Effective Teacher Training for Substitute Teachers

This class is required for those looking to become a substitute teacher in some area schools. It is also great for others that are interested in teaching youth, as a career or in community organizations. Learn how to cultivate relationships with school personnel, utilize different instructional strategies, develop lesson and classroom management plans, and more. Class meets in person one night per week on Mondays from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
