Application Periods Opening for Popular A-B Tech Programs
A-B Tech Community College is opening spring application periods for a number of its competitive admission programs in Allied Health, Emergency Services, and Business Hospitality Education. The programs include new courses and evening classes for healthcare workers, as well as the popular brewing, emergency science, and business hospitality courses.
Modified Competitive Allied Health Programs application period open March 3-31
A-B Tech Modified Competitive Allied Health programs are accepting applications until March 31, 2014. The application period occurs each spring from the first working day in March until the last working day of the month.
Students may apply now for slots in the Medical Laboratory Technology and Veterinary Medical Technology classes, which start in fall 2014. Students applying for Modified Competitive Allied Health programs also will need to take a Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) as the final step of the admissions process.
Limited Seat Programs application period open April 1
A-B Tech is also opening the application process for a number of competitive and limited admission programs starting in fall 2014, including its newest certificate to prepare individuals for jobs in sterile processing and central service supply in the healthcare field.
Students in the Central Sterile Processing program will develop the skills necessary to properly disinfect, prepare, process, store and issue both sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment for patient care.
In addition, Medical Assisting and Pharmacy Technology programs have added evening classes to serve working adults. The evening class for Pharmacy Technology requires students to be currently employed as pharmacy technicians.
“As great as the need is for skilled employees in these fields in our region, we saw there was an opportunity to expand the programs so more students could be trained for these jobs,” said Dr. Terry Brasier, Vice President of Student Services.
A-B Tech also is taking applications for healthcare programs in Medical Coding and Phlebotomy, as well as Emergency Medical Science and a number of programs in Business and Hospitality Education. They include: Brewing, Distillation & Fermentation; Cosmetology; Esthetics; Manicuring; and, Therapeutic Massage.
The application period for these programs starts April 1 and will run until classes are filled. Applicants will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, contact A-B Tech Admissions at (828) 398-7577 or (828) 398-7578.
