Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College Foundation recently sponsored the 13th Annual Scholarship Luncheon at the Crown Plaza Expo Center in recognition of scholarship sponsors and recipients.

Scholarship gifts to the A-B Tech Foundation have been helping students for more than a decade; each year more students apply for scholarships than the Foundation has funds to award. In fact, 68% of A-B Tech students have indicated that they require some level of financial support to attend college. A single “out-of-the-ordinary” expense, such as a sick child or vehicle maintenance problems, can create financial burdens that make it difficult for students to remain in school.

Tiffany McDowell, a student in the dental hygiene program, noted that at this point in her education, “I can visually assess the mouth, take vital signs, do any necessary charting, clean and polish teeth. Having the opportunity to perform the skills I have learned at A-B Tech—and to have someone take an interest in my future was a wonderful experience. I look forward to completing my degree in May of 2014 and sharing my knowledge and skill-set with my community.”
