A-B Tech Offers Pharmacy Technology Program
A-B Tech will offer a Pharmacy Technology program beginning in fall 2012. Fourteen students will be admitted into the first class through a competitive application process.
“We are pleased to provide students with another career choice in Allied Health Programs,” said Dolly Horton, Dean of Allied Health and Public Service. “A-B Tech is the only community college in Western North Carolina that is offering associate-degree level Pharmacy Technology programming.” A one-year diploma option also will be available.
The projected growth for pharmacy technician jobs is 31 percent through
2018, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Pharmacy technician
entry-level salaries are reported as $17,500 to $26,690 per year.
Students will gain training through work in either a hospital or a
commercial pharmacy. They will be expected to prepare prescription
medications, mix intravenous solutions and other specialized
medications, update patient profiles, maintain inventories, and gather
data used by pharmacists to monitor drug therapy.
Applications for the program will be accepted May 1-June 30. Fall
semester classes start Aug. 20. For more information or to apply, visit
