Local Sorority Honors High School Seniors

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority held its annual Senior Appreciation and Scholarship Program on May 14, 20011 at Tried Stone Missionary Baptist Church in Asheville. The local Gamma Gamma Omega Chapter of AKA presented awards to outstanding students from Asheville City Schools and county schools in Buncombe, Henderson, and Transylvania Counties.

Twenty-five seniors participated in the 2011 Program. Alpha Kappa Alpha
Sorority, Inc. gave awards to honorees from the following schools:

The Sorority also presented $500-dollar scholarships to four outstanding
seniors: Meghan Boston (Erwin), Michelle Sorrells (AHS), Darius Baten
(AHS), and Kayla Lindsey (Reynolds). These students will enter the
colleges of their choice this fall.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, is the first Greek-lettered
sorority established and incorporated by African American college women.
The Sorority was founded on January 15, 1908 at Howard University in
Washington, D. C.
