Walton Street Park Update: 2025
From Pool to Possibilities

The visioning process for Walton Street Park is well underway, guided by a dedicated committee composed primarily of neighbors in the Southside neighborhood.
This committee actively worked to develop a community vision statement that serves as the guiding principle for development and improvements, ensuring the park’s future truly reflects the needs and desires of this dynamic neighborhood.
In collaboration with the Southside community, the City of Asheville aims to preserve the historic character of Walton Street Pool by retaining key architectural elements and honoring its legacy through a vibrant reimagined use that integrates modern amenities while respecting the pool and bathhouse’s historic fabric to serve the surrounding neighborhood and be enjoyed for generations to come.
Southside United Neighborhood Association (SUNA) organized a steering committee in 2024 and formally partnered with the City of Asheville to collaborate on a community-driven engagement effort focused on revisioning the historical pool area within Walton Street Park.
While the initial timeline was impacted by Tropical Storm Helene, the steering committee restarted the engagement process, and a community survey was available from March 31 through May 31, 2025. The survey findings were shared by the steering committee to SUNA at their regular monthly meeting on June 26, 2025.
