Asheville Parks & Recreation has plenty to experience close to home for little to no cost.

For Teens & Kids

Tempie Avery Montford Center hosts a monthly electronic gaming night with snacks and drinks on Friday, July 21. Advance registration is required.

A new program at Dr. Wesley Grant Sr. Southside Center to build wrestling skills begins Monday, July 17 with separate sessions for 6-12 year-olds and 13-16 year-olds. $10 registration includes three training sessions per week for four weeks.

Discuss current topics, learn to tie a necktie, and focus on the basics of caring for yourself at the monthly Shiloh Young Men’s Group at Linwood Crump Shiloh Center, Wednesday, August 9 from 6-7 p.m. For more information, call (828) 274-7739.

Get Sporty

Midnight Basketball returns to Carrier Park for teens and adults on Saturday, July 15 and Saturday, August 19 beginning at 8 p.m.

Register for co-ed and men’s adult softball leagues. Games begin August 14. Register at avlrec.com.

Fall T-Ball practice begins August 21. $10. Ages 4-5. Register by July 27 at avlrec.com.

Fall Baseball practice begins August 7. $10. Ages 5-14. Register by July 27 at avlrec.com.

The Carrier Cup is three tournaments in one day, Saturday, July 22. Assemble your team for cornhole at 10:15 a.m., kanjam at 11:30 a.m., and spikeball at 12:45 p.m.

Make it Outdoors

Adults over 50 are invited to Murphy-Oakley Park for Seniors in the Park on Thursday, July 27 at 11 a.m. Each month, the Grove Street Center team brings music, games, and lunch to a different park. Call (828) 350-2062 to register.

Southside Block Party, Friday, August 4 from 6-9 p.m. at Grant Southside Center.

Free Family Movie Night at Grant Southside Center on Friday, August 11 from 6-8 p.m.

Free Outdoor Movie Night at Burton Street Center on Friday, August 11 from 6:30-9:30 p.m.
