Helping our most vulnerable neighbors through the COVID-19 pandemic.

BeLoved Asheville, a local nonprofit, has been mobilizing to care for those most at risk of the COVID-19 virus: elders, people who are homeless, people with chronic illnesses, and families with children.

BeLoved Co-Director Adrienne Sigmon stated, “BeLoved has been doing education and prevention work getting information and support resources out to the community this past week. Many people did not have sanitizer, resources to prepare for social distancing, or know about the virus and how to stay safe. This prevention work and being able to share needed supplies is essential right now, and we will keep doing that work throughout this difficult time.”

BeLoved has been distributing Preparedness Kits to our most vulnerable neighbors. The organization shares these items using a social-distancing protocol to keep the community safe and make sure that our neighbors have what they need during this critical time.

Fellow BeLoved Asheville Co-Director Ponkho Bermejo said, “We believe in community and we are doing our best to support our most vulnerable neighbors and help people stay at home to keep our community safe. We understand workers, families on low incomes, elders on fixed incomes will struggle to have what they need. By sharing food and supplies, people can isolate, stay safe, and help our community be healthy. We will also support people who do not have a home to know that people are caring for them during this pandemic and making sure they have what they need. We have to take care of our neighbors. It is our responsibility. We’re all in this together. We need each other.”
