Pastor Spencer E. Hardaway of Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Asheville is now serving as Board Chair for the A-B Community Relations Council.

The Asheville Buncombe Community Relations Council has named Pastor Spencer E. Hardaway its new board chairman.

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, he has been pastor of Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church at 486 Caribou Road for fourteen years.

A long-time member of the Army Reserves, Hardaway was mobilized to Fort Hood during Operation Enduring Freedom in 2003-2004 and again to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2009-2010. He retired in 2014 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

Locally Hardaway has served on the Asheville Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and currently is on the Asheville Neighborhood Advisory Committee. He brings thirty-five years of leadership experience in military, civilian, and religious settings to his new role at ABCCM, and the board expects his varied experiences will be of great value as the organization goes through a period of transition and transformation.

ABCRC has worked for decades to resolve issues related to racial, ethnic, religious, sexual-orientation, gender, and other identities. Current plans call for the organization to refine its mission, reshape its goals, and redefine its objectives to impact the Asheville and Buncombe County community.

Pastor Hardaway and Anita, his wife of 38 years, are the proud parents of “three adult daughters, two son-in-laws, two granddaughters, one grandson, and a partridge in a pear tree.” They have also just added to their extended family three nephews and a niece.
