Free Photo Shoot in Asheville

The Vote Against Project Statewide Tour Continues
Members of the public are invited to “strike a pose against discrimination” and take a stand at a fun and free photo shoot on Saturday, March 24 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Altamont Theater, 18 Church Street in Asheville.
It’s part of The Vote Against Project, an independent, grassroots photo project, founded by Raleigh photographer Curtis Brown and a group of volunteers. The project aims to create a portrait of North Carolina unity – giving voters a creative space to share that they will vote “against” the constitutional amendment on May 8, 2012.
The Asheville photo shoot is part of a four-month, statewide tour of
photo shoots that have ignited excitement and support from thousands as
they speak out for equality in North Carolina. The photo shoots are free
and open to the public.
Brown will photograph participants in
T-shirts that boldly read “Vote Against.” Staff will provide T-shirts
for the photos, and for those inspired to wear their pride home, shirts
are available for $20.
All photos will share the spotlight at
www.voteagainst.org, the group’s official website. For more information
call (919) 270-6175 or email [email protected].
The Proposed Amendment:
Marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this state.
In addition to prohibiting same-sex marriage, as state law already does, the Amendment would:
• Prohibit North Carolina from ever passing legislation that would grant civil unions;
• Bar the state from instituting domestic partnership rights;
•
Strip the domestic partner insurance benefits currently offered to
employees by a number of local governments, including Chapel Hill,
Durham, Greensboro, and Mecklenburg and Orange Counties.
The Election takes place May 8, 2012, the same day as the presidential primary. Find out more by visiting www.voteagainst.org
