Fifth Season Gardening Co. Celebrates 10th Anniversary
by Steve Balcom
Asheville’s premier source for hydroponic and organic gardening products will turn ten this April. Fifth Season Gardening Co. will celebrate this special milestone on Saturday, April 16 with live music and refreshments in its parking lot at 45 Banks Avenue in downtown Asheville. The event is free and open to the public.
“We look forward to celebrating this special milestone with our customers, employees, vendors and the Asheville community who have been so supportive of the store over the last ten years,” says Fifth Season Gardening Co. owner Richard Quinn. “The Downtown Asheville store was our first, so both the store and the company turn ten.”
Fifth Season Gardening began as Asheville Agricultural Systems in
2000, selling hydroponic systems and supplies. The company soon expanded
by opening stores in Durham, NC and Greensboro, NC under the name
Carolina Hydrogardens. The addition of organic gardening to the product
mix in 2005 prompted a rebranding of the company to Fifth Season
Gardening Co.
In the past five years, Fifth Season Gardening has opened stores
in Carrboro, NC, Raleigh, NC, and Charlottesville, VA. The Asheville
store was renamed Fifth Season Gardening Co. in 2008. In 2010, Fifth
Season Gardening opened a wholesale warehouse on Westside Drive in West
Asheville to service farms and bulk orders.
Fifth Season Gardening specializes in hydroponics, organic
gardening and beer and wine making supplies and offers a wealth of
products and information to customers who take a do-it-yourself approach
to life. The Asheville store just began stocking beer starter and
ingredient kits, hops, grains, and other products for homebrew
enthusiasts.
The Anniversary event on Saturday, April 16 will feature live
music from Dub Cartel (featuring Weeks on drums), beer provided by
Asheville Brewing Company, and 10% off everything in the store that
afternoon. The event is from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Fifth Season parking lot
at 45 Banks Avenue in Asheville.
