Roberta Madden of Black Mountain was recently selected to receive the Brotherhood Sisterhood Award during an awards dinner in Baton Rouge, LA, hosted by 100 Black Men of Metro Baton Rouge in partnership with the 2011 Brotherhood Sisterhood Awards Dinner Committee. This year’s honorees are Madden and Leodrey Williams, chancellor of the Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center.
Madden, a former activist with the YWCA Greater Baton Rouge, has a long track record of making contributions to the community in an effort to break down barriers that divide society and stop people from achieving their goals, according to 100 Black Men. She worked for 41 years to foster improved interracial relations in Baton Rouge and to promote equal rights for women.
She is now active with the local group Building Bridges, where she serves on the board of directors and chairs the evening program committee, and with the League of Women Voters.
