Low Income Energy Assistance Program
Staff reports
The State of North Carolina will be providing heating assistance payments in February 2011 through the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP). These payments are designed to supplement energy costs incurred during winter months.
In partnership with the Buncombe County Department of Social Services, Community Action Opportunities will be taking applications for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program November 1-12, 2010. Applications will be taken at Community Action Opportunities between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The address is 25 Gaston Street, Asheville.
Any resident of Buncombe County is eligible to apply for the one-time
cash payment; however, income and asset guidelines must be met in order
to qualify. Call (828) 252-2495 to find out what you need to include
with your application. The LIEAP program is designed to provide a
onetime supplement for winter energy costs for low-income residents.
September recipients of Food Assistance were automatically
evaluated for the LIEAP program. Some received a notice stating that
they will receive a payment in February, while others received a notice
stating that they need to apply in person. Any other Buncombe County
citizen who wishes to be considered for this program must apply in
person November 2-12, 2010.
