Pickpockets on the Loose in Asheville Area

Asheville Police Ask the Public’s Help in Locating Pickpockets Victimizing Older Persons

In the last several weeks five older persons have reported being victimized by a pair of pickpockets. These thieves have stolen credit cards and other personal items from their victims. Credit card fraud losses totaling several thousands of dollars have resulted. Typically the female member of the team will engage an older woman in conversation or distract the victim in some other way. Item(s) are then removed from the victim’s purse or pockets.

The
pair has been working in the east part of town along Tunnel Road and in
the vicinity of the Asheville Mall. As a result of police
investigation, surveillance camera photographs of the pair of
pickpockets have been obtained.

Anyone who has
information concerning the identity of these two people or information
about where they might be staying is asked to contact, Detective Tony
Johnson at 259-5929.
