Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Sponsors Blood Drive and Community Health Fair
The Gamma Gamma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., is co-sponsoring a pre-Mother’s Day Blood Drive and Community Health Fair on Saturday, May 12, 2007, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Tried Stone Missionary Baptist Church fellowship hall (located at 100 Carroll Avenue).
The sorority is asking all children to bring their mothers and all mothers to bring their children. This is a great opportunity for everyone to share in beginning or continuing good health habits.
The following services will be provided at the Community Health Fair-
• Information
concerning high-risk diseases that affect the African-American
community ( e.g., breast cancer, prostate cancer, hypertension,
diabetes, high cholesterol, heart disease)
• Opportunity to register with the National Bone Marrow Registry
• Information concerning disaster preparedness / emergency services
• Blood pressure screening
• Answers to health concerns
• Medication review by a clinical pharmacist
• Registered dietician answering questions concerning nutrition and diet
• Chair massage (5 minutes) by a certified massage therapist
• Chiropractic assessment
• Advanced directives information.
The blood drive
and health fair are open to the public. Please come out, give the gift
of life, and receive important health information! Even if you cannot
participate in the blood donation, the health fair will provide
excellent information on topics affecting a variety of health concerns,
especially those prevalent throughout the African-American community.
