Quiñones Named NC Firefighter of the Year

from Staff reports

The North Carolina State Firemen’s Association (NCSFA) has named Asheville Fire & Rescue Captain Mike Quiñones as the 2006 Firefighter of the Year. Captain Quiñones received the award in Greensboro on August 26 at the annual NCSFA conference.

Captain Quiñones has served with Asheville Fire and Rescue since March 1990. Chief Gregory Grayson said, “It is an honor for all of the members of the Asheville Fire and Rescue Department that one of our own has been selected from over 40,000 firefighters in North Carolina. Captain Quiñones well represents the pride and professionalism of the members of Asheville Fire and Rescue.”

This is the first time that a firefighter from the Asheville Fire and Rescue Department has received this prestigious award. Quiñones was selected by a panel of past recipients of the award. He was nominated by Grayson based upon his work performance, community involvement, and leadership by setting the example for other firefighters to follow.
