By Bernard Oliphant –
Eagles’ Wings Community Development Corporation (EWCDC), is a coalition comprised of more than 80 predominantly African American churches through 20 WNC counties.
Its mission incorporates permanent affordable housing, business and economic development, and engineer projects to create generational wealth in African American communities.
The nonprofit plans to offer trade skills training to at-risk youths and justice-involved individuals and thereby also help reduce gun violence in the cities.
Along with the undertaking these projects, EWCDC will work closely with city and county leaders on equity-based initiatives that are already underway.
“If we have equity-based solutions, what we want to do is make them more effective, said Williams.
With the goal of creating a variety of program offerings in a healthy, safe, and sustainable environment, EWCDC will also provide technical assistance to future homeowners and small business owners to create generational wealth.
The Board of Directors includes CEO Superintendent Ronald Gates, President DeRothea Williams, Rev. Spencer Jones, Moderator of the Mud Creek Baptist Association, Bernard V Oliphant (Treasurer), Rev. Gary McDaniels, Rev. James Grant, Rev. Charles Lee, Rev. Louis Grant, Rev. Robert Sanders, Ms. Leslie Anderson, Rev. David E. Roberts II, and Rev. Antonia Logan.
