med week logoThe Minority Enterprise Development Committee of Western North Carolina has announced its schedule of activities for MEDWeek 2016, Monday, Sept. 26 – Friday, Sept. 30.

This annual week of events, begun in 1982 under a national initiative established under President Ronald Reagan, recognizes the achievements of minority businesses and honors “those corporations and financial institutions that support minority business development.”

The week of events in Western North Carolina, held annually since 1983, comprises workshops and panels for local small businesses and culminates in a dinner and awards ceremony. Award winners are announced in such categories as Best Emerging and Best Existing Minority Business of the Year. This year’s plans include special events aimed at helping individual minority-owned businesses gain targeted help.

Candidates are nominated by the area’s community of entrepreneurs, service providers, and citizens, or can be self-nominated. To nominate a business, visit the MEDWeek website (www.wncmedweek.org), download and fill out the application form, which is available in English and Spanish, and submit it to MEDWeek Committee of WNC, Inc. c/o Business Award Selection Committee, P.
