George C. Jones, Jr. has been chosen as the new Executive Director of Green Opportunities, Inc.

Mr. Jones will officially begin his role at GO on July 15, 2015 working alongside outgoing Interim Executive Director, Kendra Penland, GO staff and the GO Board to ensure a smooth transition.

GO’s new Executive Director brings with him a 20-year history of proven leadership, successful economic development initiatives and innovative multi-sector partnerships.

Mr. Jones’ previous work includes developing growth strategies for transportation firms with the NC Department of Transportation as Vice President and Small Business Capacity Enhancement Director with ED3 Group. In this position, he worked to foster strategic collaborations and address environmental justice concerns while supporting small and minority-owned business enterprises.

Mr. Jones has also served as Project Director for the South Atlantic Region Small Business Transportation Resource Center at North Carolina A&T’s Transportation Institute. Under his leadership, the Institute secured $1.4 million in new funding for workforce development training. Prior to his return to North Carolina, Mr. Jones served as a corporate liaison for business recruitment and the Small Business Advocate for the Texas Department of Economic Development.

“Throughout my career, I have had a passion for community development and helping others to maximize their potential,” said Jones. “I recognize the importance of economically transforming communities, but also how critical it is to do so in a manner that preserves the pride and dignity of a community and the individuals seeking support.”

The Board and staff at Green Opportunities couldn’t be happier with the bold new visions and extensive capacity Mr. Jones is bringing to the table and are thrilled to have him leading this important mission as the organization enters their 7th year of operations.

Over the coming months, GO will host opportunities for stakeholders and community members to welcome Mr. Jones to the organization and the WNC community. For details and schedules, visit the GO website, www.greenopportunities.org, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and e-newsletter.
