Education is Key

Dreams can come true if you wake up and go to work on them. My father often said, “If you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life.”

Have you ever been so involved in working on a project you enjoyed that you lost track of time? Perhaps it was a hobby, a good book, or gardening in your yard. These activities are often indicative of what you enjoy.

I want to share a remarkable story of a businessman who found his passion and a career when he was still a young boy. His named is C.J. Willis.

C.J. did not come from a rich family, and he was not that interested in school. One evening when C.J.’s parents were going out for the evening, he asked to play his dad’s stereo before bedtime. The stereo was very expensive and his mom told him no. One day while plundering around the house, C.J. discovered an old stereo in the attic of their home and asked his parents if he could have it. His parents agreed that it would be okay.

The next morning C.J.’s mom found him in his bedroom with the stereo from the attic connected up with quadraphonic speakers all around the walls of his room, and the speaker wire concealed in the walls!

C.J.’s passion had led him to this accomplishment. His parents were surprised, and encouraged C.J. to go to school, and he took their advice. Today C.J. Willis is the proud owner of “Wire Monkey Custom Audio/Video Installation” of Columbia, SC. When I asked C.J. how he became so successful he replied, “My folks made me go to business college, and then do what I loved!”

Parents can make a difference by the expectations they set for their children, and by recognizing that education is at the foundation of success. Instilling that understanding in their children is one of the keys to good parenting … and a good life.

You don’t have to be great to get something started; you to have to start something to become great!
