The Asheville Buncombe Community Relations Council, a management support organization serving the nonprofit sector since 1989, has announced the selection of Lucia Daugherty as its new program director.

Daugherty will fill the vacancy created by Sara Nuñez’s departure to pursue the Chiva, LLC project, which she helped found. The selection was made after a local and regional search and selection process, during which Lucia served as interim director for the organization.

“We are very pleased to announce this appointment,” reported Larry McCallum, Asheville-Buncombe Community Relations Council Board Chair. “Lucia will bring leadership and creativity to ABCRC’s programs and a deep sense of commitment to our mission. She brings a breadth of perspective and experience to our nonprofit, and we are excited about having her lead our organization into the next phase of growth.”

Daugherty has served the WNC community as an advocate for fair housing, community organizer, and in case management, program development, and communications in the nonprofit sector.

She has been a staff member for the I Have a Dream Foundation, the YWCA, Direct Care, and AmeriCorps. Prior to this appointment Lucia was a Community Relations Specialist for ABCRC, working as the Head of Client Services, assisting in the development and implementation of community programs, supporting capacity building grant projects, and providing some administrative coordination for the agency.

“I look forward to continuing to serve and partner with the area’s nonprofit organizations in this new capacity,” said Daugherty. “I am dedicated to this organization because of its mission to work with others towards equity and inclusion for all people. ABCRC plays a key role in supporting and developing the greater community, whether it’s about fair housing, law enforcement relations, discrimination claims, or just helping others link to resources,” concluded Lucia.
