Galyean Named to Coca-Cola Academic Team

A-B Tech Community College student Stella Galyean has been named the 2013 Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Silver Scholar.
A sixth-grade dropout and mother of five, Stella was encouraged by family members not to attend school. However, she enrolled in the Human Services Technology curriculum and is working toward earning her associate’s degree with a certification in Substance Abuse Studies.
“I come from a very addictive family where many have problems with drugs and alcohol. I use my family as stepping stones instead of letting them get in my way. I want to help people with the same problems, so I started classes that very same week. This scholarship means to world to me. I know it is such an honor to receive it and it is very important to me and my future,” she concluded.
“The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation has a long history of providing financial assistance to outstanding students at community colleges,” said J. Mark Davis, President of the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation. “We are proud to partner with Phi Theta Kappa and make it possible for deserving students to achieve their educational goals.”
