Living Wage for Contract Workers

Staff Reports

Asheville’s City Council approved a new stipulation for future mid-size city contracts, those ranging from $30,000 to $90,000, which requires that workers on those jobs be paid a living wage. These are typically service-type contracts for grass mowing, security, specialized repairs, and etc. Many such workers already earn at that level, but not all.

The City is already a certified Living Wage Employer, which means we pay at least the current Living Wage to all regular full- and part-time employees, which is $11.35/hour without benefits, or $9.85/hour with employer-provided health insurance.
