The Urban News recently featured an interesting program about Thomas Wolfe’s story “The Child by Tiger.” The event was well attended, attracting many black and white people to hear presentations by Joanne Mauldin and Dr. Darin Waters.

Afterwards, many noted that there is too little exchange of ideas between blacks and whites and that they would like very much to continue the dialogue.

An excellent opportunity exists for this dialogue: Building Bridges of Asheville, which works to enable our community to confront and overcome racism by changing attitudes and hearts through education, consciousness-raising, a call to action and ongoing support.

The next nine-week session begins Monday, January 21 and will continue every Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. through March 18. It will be held at the MAHEC Educational Building, 121 Hendersonville Road (behind the Doubletree Hotel).

Continuing Education Units are available for health professionals, clergy, educators, and others. The fee is only $30, which includes materials. To register, go to www.buildingbridges-asheville.org. For information call (828) 777-4585.

Sincerely, Roberta Madden
