Black History Bootcamp
GirlTrek’s new podcast recounts stories of Black resilience and resistance to help women navigate through these uncertain times.
This series includes stories from our Black ancestors that remind us where we came from and gives us strength for the road ahead.
Each episode of Black History Bootcamp is a conversation between friends on strategies of survival, self-care, and joy. Through stories of the past, GirlTrek co-founders Morgan Dixon and Vanessa Garrison share a blueprint that supports our health and happiness.
The series, now in its fifth season, features episodes that pay tribute to leaders, crews, storytellers, spiritual warriors, Black women, musicians, and revolutionaries who made significant impacts on our history.
Tune in to hear stories of folks you may never have heard of—such as Mary Bowser, a formerly enslaved woman turned Union spy, who helped take down the confederacy—followed by stories of beloved ancestors and icons Dianna Ross, Katherine Dunham, Ida B. Wells, and so many others.
Each season presents 21 topics in illuminating categories. “The Prayer Edition” speaks to your soul by honoring Bishop Tutu, the Mandela Family, Bob Marley, Stevie Wonder, Reverend Dr. Pauli Murray, and other families.
“Acts of Resistance” celebrates the lives of man of our heroes, including Stokely Carmichael, Fannie Lou Hammer, and Nat Turner. Plus, the series keeps it current with titles like “Bree Newsome Snatches the Confederacy’s Wig,” “James Baldwin Claps Back,” and “Wangari Maathai Saves Earth.”
You are invited to join the conversation! Get out and breathe some fresh air, sing at the top of your lungs, and explore some of the pivotal moments from our history. Through the ancestral tradition of walking, you can move through grief, create a path forward, and reclaim your joy.
