The Asheville Symphony’s 2022-23 season will include the popular free Symphony in the Park concert in Downtown Asheville’s Pack Square Park.

Tickets are available now for the dynamic seven-concert Masterworks Series, the James Bond-themed New Year’s Eve performance, a world-class pianist in recital, the expanded flexible chamber orchestra series, and the triumphant return of the Asheville Amadeus Festival.

“After our successful return to live performances last season, we are thrilled to present our most ambitious season yet,” said Asheville Symphony Executive Director Daniel Crupi. “We heard the message loud and clear from our community that you are hungry for more, so that is exactly what we are bringing this season.

“We are delighted to present a full seven Masterworks programs; expand our popular ALT ASO chamber orchestra concerts to venues such as Hi-Wire and Highland Brewing, the Orange Peel, and Salvage Station; reimagine the Asheville Amadeus Festival with a distinctly Americana flair, featuring the musical prowess of Béla Fleck, Kishi Bashi, and a host of community collaborators; and offer a New Year’s Eve concert showcasing the beloved music of the James Bond films and a piano recital with a rising star.”

On Sunday, August 28, the ASO returns to Pack Square Park for its free Symphony in the Park concert to which the entire community is invited. The concert, led by ASO Music Director Darko Butorac, features beloved classical, pops, and movie music including Pirates of the Caribbean; Rossini’s “William Tell” Overture; The Sound of Music; The Good, the Bad and the Ugly; Indiana Jones, and more!

The season opens in earnest the week of September 12, with the return of the ALT ASO mobile chamber orchestra series at Hi-Wire Brewing’s RAD Beer Garden on September 13 and the opening of the Masterworks Season on Saturday, September 17. The Masterworks concert features works by Montgomery and Brahms, plus Mozart’s “Clarinet Concerto” with award-winning clarinetist—and current principal of the New York Philharmonic—Anthony McGill.

Other highlights of the Masterworks season include works by composers including Beethoven,  Dvorak, Fazil Say, and Alexandra DuBois, and unique programs including A Night at the Opera featuring Verdi and Puccini, a Scandinavian-inspired program, a classical guitar concerto, and more.

All Masterworks concerts take place in Thomas Wolfe Auditorium in downtown Asheville, with the exception of Masterworks 5: Guitarra Española, which will take place at First Baptist Church of Asheville on March 18.

The wildly popular ALT ASO mobile chamber orchestra series returns! We kick off the Asheville Symphony 22-23 season Opening Week at Hi-Wire’s third Asheville location: its new beer garden. Encircled by repurposed shipping containers, this indoor-outdoor taproom opened earlier this year in Asheville’s River Arts District.

This performance features a hybrid New Orleans jazz band and Balkan brass band, creating a celebratory atmosphere for our season opener and featuring repertoire such as Bourbon St. Parade, When the Saints Go Marching In, and more!
