Netflix and Shondaland are producing a new limited series based on the historical figure, Queen Charlotte.
While the project is untitled, the series explores the life of young Queen Charlotte, with a special focus on Violet Bridgerton and Lady Danbury.
Centered on Queen Charlotte’s rise to prominence and power, this Bridgerton prequel tells the story of the young queen’s marriage to King George, a great love story that caused the societal shift that created Bridgerton.
Betrothed to the mysterious King of England against her will, young Queen Charlotte arrives in London only to realize she was not exactly what the royals were expecting. As she learns to navigate the palace, the ’ton, and her unpredictable husband, she grows into one of Europe’s most unforgettable monarchs.
Under the thumb of a much older husband, young Agatha Danbury uses Charlotte’s arrival to find her own way into society. With keen knowledge of the once divided social scene and the intricacies of marriage, Agatha becomes a guiding light for the new Queen, all while finding her own voice and power—helping create the iconic Lady Danbury of the Bridgerton series that we are familiar with.
The new series continues with Golda Rosheuvel as Queen Charlotte, Adjoa Andoh as Lady Agatha Danbury, and Ruth Gemmell as Lady Violet Bridgerton, while introducing us to India Amarteifio as young Queen Charlotte, Arsema Thomas as young Agatha Danbury, and Cyril Nri as Lord Danbury.
