UNCA Department of Music Concerts – October 2016

UNC Asheville student ensembles will present a series of concerts on campus during October. Most concerts are free and open to everyone.

Live at Lunch Concerts

Student ensembles will perform jazz and contemporary music in the Highsmith Union Food Court on Thursdays, October 6-27 from noon to 1 p.m. These free, informal concerts are open to everyone. Food is available for purchase and brown-bag lunches are welcome.

Thursday, October 13 – The Wayne Shorter Ensemble directed by Jacob Rodriguez, and The Nina Simone Ensemble directed by Brian Felix.

Thursday, October 20 – The Asheville Singers, directed by Melodie Galloway.

Thursday, October 27 – The Guitar Ensemble, directed by Tim Doyle, and The Bluegrass Ensemble, directed by Toby King.

The Blue Ridge Orchestra in Concert

Saturday and Sunday, October 15 & 16 – The Blue Ridge Orchestra, which includes UNC Asheville student musicians among its members, will present an Homage to Haydn, with two performances at Lipinsky Auditorium on campus. Works by Haydn, Brahms, and Mendelssohn will be included. Tickets are $15 for the public and $5 for students, available at the door or at blueridgeorchestra.org.
