More than 100 people filled the YMI Cultural Center on Sept. 19 for the unveiling of a new portrait of Dr. William Barber.

The portrait, created by artist Robert Shetterly, joins more than 200 other paintings in the “Americans Who Tell the Truth” series.

Dr. Barber, head of the NAACP-NC and leader of the Moral Mondays movement, has gained national attention for his protests against unjust policies passed by the NC Legislature.

Dr. Barber’s portrait was sponsored by the Martin Luther King, Jr. Association of Asheville and Buncombe County, which hosts the annual MLK Prayer Breakfast each January.

Dr. Barber’s portrait, along with those of several dozen other Americans Who Tell The Truth (online at www.americanswhotellthetruth.org), will be on exhibit at the YMI gallery through November 7; cost is $10.

For more details, contact the YMI at (828) 257-4540 or visit www.ymiculturalcenter.org.
