World-Renowned Native NC Musicians

Bill Myers & The Monitors with Shirlette Ammons will be performing songs and sharing their experiences on the front steps of the UNCA Ramsey Library on Friday, October 17, 2014 at 5 p.m. This free event will showcase the group’s rich cultural history and musical traditions.
Bill Myers & The Monitors with Shirlette Ammons will also be performing at LEAF this mnth. The group, along with many others, are featured in the guidebook The African American Music Trails of Eastern North Carolina. The Monitors, formed in 1957, have remained a cornerstone of the North Carolina jazz and blues culture for more than fifty years.
The African American Music Trails of Eastern North Carolina is a guidebook to sites and venues where rhythm and blues, soul, funk, and sacred music have been shaped by the region’s remarkable artists.
