 The Haywood County Arts Council presents the Signature Winds on Sunday, March 20 at 3 p.m. as part of the Sunday Concert Series at the Haywood County Library auditorium in Waynesville. The Sunday Concert Series is co-sponsored by the Friends of the Haywood County Library. Admission is free and the public is cordially invited to attend. Donations are requested.
The performance will feature the Quintetto in E-flat Major, Op. 67, No. 3, by Franz Danzi. Danzi (1763-1826) was one of the first composers to establish the instrumentation for the wind quintet, and his nine works for that ensemble are among the major repertoire.

The E-flat major work, published around 1823, features each instrument
in a virtuoso capacity, as well as in ensemble playing. While
maintaining the classic four-movement structure, Danzi also exhibits
humor and delicacy in this work. Although he was a cellist himself, he
understood the unique characteristics of the individual winds and
utilized their differences and similarities with remarkable skill.

Also on the program are works by Moussorgsky, Joplin, and a setting of
N’kosi Sikeleli Afrika (the National Anthem of South Afrika) by Valerie
Coleman, flutist with the Imani Winds, a professional wind quintet in
New York City. Members of the Signature Winds are Kathy Alley, flute;
Pat Stone, oboe; Charles Alley, clarinet; Stephanie Lyon, horn; and Mary
Thomas, bassoon.
