One Dozen Who Care will present “GospelFest: When All God’s Children Get Together,” as a part of the 2011 Chautauqua AVE! (Andrews Valley Experience) celebration.
The concert will take place April 2, 2011 from 12 noon until 4 p.m. at the Valleytown Cultural Arts Center, at the corner of Chestnut and Third St. in Andrews, NC.
Groups planning to participate include the Sunlight Gospel Singers of Forest City, SC, and St. John Baptist Church Choir and Male Chorus from Cleveland, GA.
An number of individual gospel singers of African American, Cherokee
and Caucasian heritage will also perform, including Joan Whitaker of
Andrews, Emma Garrett of Robbinsville, and Rev. Cynseria “Cookie”
Jenkins of Cornelia, GA. Rev. Charles Lee, a spiritual storyteller and
pastor of Liberty Baptist Church in Sylva, and Rev. Lewis Grant of
Asheville, will share Emcee duties.
The program is sponsored by One Dozen Who Care, Inc., a nonprofit
Community Development Corporation, and its Martin Luther King, Jr.
Storytellers’ Guild. Both the CDC and the Guild have participated in the
annual AVE! programs since its founded by former Executive Director Ann
Woodford.
