UNC Asheville’s Music Department will continue its spring concert season with three performances in March, ranging from jazz to chamber music. Concerts will be held in Lipinsky Auditorium. Admission is $5 at the door.
Thursday, March 18
Student jazz combos, under the direction of Rich Willey and Tom Coppola, will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 18. Each group will perform a variety of music from composers such as Duke Ellington to Wayne Shorter. The concert will include vocal and instrumental selections.
Sunday, March 21
UNC Asheville student ensembles, including Flute Choir, String
Quartet, and Brass Quintet will present a chamber music concert at 4
p.m. on Sunday, March 21. The students, under the direction of Rita
Hayes, Inez Redman, and Casey Coppenbarger, will perform works by
Mozart, Victor Ewald, and Alexander Goedicke.
Saturday, March 27
The UNC Asheville Jazz Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. on
Saturday, March 27. The concert will be followed by a performance from
the Asheville Jazz Orchestra, the premier professional big band of
Western North Carolina. The UNC Asheville Jazz Band, under the
direction of David Wilken, will perform music by Pat Metheny, Benny
Goodman, and others. The Asheville Jazz Orchestra will perform original
compositions by Wilken.
