Roadworks Entertainment will present The Color Purple, The Musical about Love, at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium at the Asheville Civic Center on Tuesday, May 4 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the single performance are available at (800) 745-3000 and www.ticketmaster.com.

The original 2005 production, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker and the Steven Spielberg film, played for two years on Broadway and was nominated for eleven Tony Awards including Best Musical. The book and musical tell the inspiring story of the character Celie, who finds the strength to triumph over adversity and discovers her unique voice in the world. With a joyous, Grammy-nominated score featuring gospel, jazz, pop, and blues, The Color Purple is about hope and the healing power of love.

The production from Phoenix Entertainment ~ Joyful Noisemakers LLC, is directed by Gary Griffin and features a libretto by Marsha Norman, music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis, and Stephen Bray, and choreography by Donald Byrd.
