Johnson City, TN – Main Street in the inner cities’ Blue Plum Village is an eclectic mix of bars, restaurants, and live music venues. A new spot has entered this mix. Misty’s Jazz and Blues opened this summer and offers citizens of the area a great opportunity to relax in a jazzy, bluesy atmosphere.
Misty, whose real name is Mallisa Morrison, was born and raised in Johnson City and was a 1985 graduate of Science Hill High School. Although this is her first foray into the club ownership, she is in fact a second-generation owner. Her grandfather Jack Smith had a place on Wilson Avenue in the ’60s and ’70s.
One of the fondest memories of Misty’s childhood is of running over to
her grandfather’s bar to play the old games of pinball with one of her
aunts. Being from Johnson City, Misty said she always saw the need for a
place where people could come together in a mature, relaxing atmosphere
to have a beer or just meet with old and new friends.
Misty’s is open from 5 p.m. till 2 a.m. seven days a week. The décor,
music, and atmosphere are reminiscent of the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s. Every
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday DJ One and Done are at the turntable, and
Misty hopes to have at least one, if not more, live acts on stage per
month.
At present Misty serves food on Friday and Saturday, and features fish
on Fridays; she also suggests patrons try the barbeque and wings any
time of the week. She invites everyone in to relax and listen to jazz,
blues, and some “ole school.” Starting in October, lunch will be served
from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Misty is located at 232 E Main Street, Johnson City, TN in the Blue Plum Village (423) 202-7178
