Pianoforte Concert

Alexander Schwarzkopf performs Bach’s Goldberg Variations. Most only know this work through the 1955 interpretation by Glenn Gould, so it’s a rare treat to hear it performed live. Cost: $8 plus the cost of admission to the museum; $6 for members of the museum.
Tot Time in the Art PLAYce for Children
Tuesday, August 19, 10:30 a.m.
Parents and caregivers with pre-school age children are invited to bring their youngsters to the Museum’s interactive Art PLAYce for Children. “Tot Time,” features a guided art activity designed especially for tiny tots. Participating children must be accompanied by an adult. Free with membership or museum admission, children under 5 admitted free.
Silver and Gold Gilding Demonstration & Workshop
Thursday, August 28, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Alan Shuptrine of Shuptrine’s Gallery and Gilding Studio, located in Chattanooga, will provide a hands-on demonstration of the centuries-old method of water gilding. He will discuss the details of Old World gilding methods and how these methods are applied in the restoration and conservation of historical items.
Participants will be able to experiment with the techniques and create their own small gilded silver objects to take home. All materials and snacks are included in the cost. Cost: $75; $60 for members of the museum.
