The 2024 Great North American Solar Eclipse
The Great North American Solar eclipse will occur on Monday, April 8, 2024.

Its approximate 122-mile-wide umbral path will create a total eclipse for many folks, but in Asheville and surrounding areas you will only experience a partial solar eclipse with a maximum covered solar disk of 87%.
The approximate local timing for this 2-1/2 hour partial eclipse is:
- 1:52 p.m. First contact – partial eclipse begins
- 3:09 p.m. Mid-eclipse – maximum solar disk coverage of 87%
- 4:26 p.m. Last contact – partial eclipse ends
Always wear proper solar eye protection when looking at all portions of a partial solar eclipse. Free solar eclipse viewers will be provided there while supplies last.
