Set in Patty’s Bar in the 1940s, Take Me Back To Harlem offers a conversation between Langston Hughes and his literary creation Jess B. Semple. The play, like much of Hughes’s work, examines the depths of the human experience: in the bar, with a backdrop of jazz, the blues, and singing and dancing, the characters cover topics from race, religion, and politics to matters of the heart.
Presented by Journey Performance Arts Ministry and 2Rs1K Production, Take Me Back To Harlem is Journey’s premiere secular piece, and offers audiences an opportunity to engage in the mind, views, and heart of one of America’s iconic Black writers.
Take Me Back to Harlem premiers at the Orange Peel on Saturday, January 15, 2022. Tickets are available for purchase at www.theorangepeel.net.
